Governor Quinn to Illinois Business Leaders:
Get Involved to Stabilize Medicaid & Pension Systems
SPRINGFIELD – In his keynote address at the Illinois Retail Merchants Association’s
annual business day, Governor Pat Quinn called on Illinois business leaders to push for solutions that rescue
Illinois’ Medicaid and public pension systems this legislative session. The two fast-growing areas of state
spending are on unsustainable paths, jeopardizing their existence, those who depend on them, and the state’s
ability to fund core services like education and public safety. Uncertainty caused by inaction on these two
critical issues makes it more difficult for businesses and the state to plan for long-term needs and growth. |

Governor Quinn Announces $31.6 Million for City Colleges of Chicago
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Cheryl Hyman to announce $31.6 million from the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program for a new Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) Center at Olive-Harvey College. The facility will be the first comprehensive TDL education center in the state and supports Governor Quinn’s commitment to growing high-tech jobs. The facility will prepare students for work in transportation logistics and other high-tech careers such as automotive technology, applied engineering and avionics. |

Governor Quinn Breaks Ground on $37.8 Million State Police Forensic Laboratory in Belleville
BELLEVILLE – Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by state and local officials to
break ground on the $37.8 million State Police Metro-East Forensic Science Laboratory in Belleville, a facility
that will provide the Illinois State Police with enhanced crime-solving abilities. As part of the Governor’s
ongoing commitment to improving public safety in Illinois, the facility will also give police agencies throughout
the region a valuable tool for their criminal investigations. The project is creating approximately 260
construction jobs and is expected to be completed in 2013. |

Governor Quinn Announces $30.5 Million for Community Health Centers Throughout Illinois Capital Funds Will Help Improve Health Care Access in Underserved Communities, Create Jobs
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced $30.5 million from the capital program to build and renovate 14 community health centers throughout Illinois. The Illinois Jobs Now! funding will help the state to improve health outcomes for medically underserved Illinoisans, reduce health care spending and save taxpayers money. Capital construction grants now available for early childhood services
SPRINGFIELD – Applications are now being accepted for construction grants to increase the availability of early childhood services in underserved areas of Illinois. Governor Quinn Announces State Building Receives U.S. EPA’s Prestigious ENERGY STAR Award
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that the state’s Michael A. Bilandic Building has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR award, recognizing it as one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the nation. The Bilandic Building in Chicago has increased its energy efficiency by nearly 68 percent since 2008, resulting in significantly reduced energy usage and energy cost savings of approximately $100,000 per year.

cost of $1 million from the arcade surrounding the James R.

to make appointments to Illinois boards and commissions more
transparent and accessible. Under the executive order, the Governor
launched Appointments.Illinois.gov, a website that allows Illinois
citizens to access information about members and vacancies in
the state’s 300 boards and commissions. |
